Church is the people of God, gathered in the name of Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

When Jesus spoke about church, he described a people he would build, not a place people would go. The word translated “church” in the New Testament is ekklesia, which simply means a “called-out assembly.” Wherever believers gather in Jesus’ name, the church is present.

Jesus promised that where two or three gather in his name, he is present among them. That promise applies in sanctuaries and cathedrals, and it applies just as fully in living rooms, around kitchen tables, in parks, or wherever believers meet.

Our free guide to practicing church at home is designed to equip you to live that out right where you are.

The Four Pillars of Church

Bible

1

The church is shaped by the Word of God. Scripture teaches us who God is, who we are, and how we are called to live. When believers gather around the Bible, the Holy Spirit uses God’s Word to form hearts, renew minds, and guide the church in truth.

Prayer

2

The church depends on God. Prayer is how we listen, respond, and remain rooted in him. Through prayer, we express our worship, confess our need, intercede for others, and seek God’s will together.

Worship

3

Worship is the orientation of our lives toward God. When the church gathers, worship means turning our shared attention toward who God is and what he is worthy of. Worship can be expressed in many forms, but its purpose is always the same: to honor God.

Fellowship

4

The church is a shared life. Fellowship is how believers love one another, bear one another’s burdens, and live as a spiritual family. Through fellowship, the love of Christ becomes visible in ordinary, relational ways.

Church is who you are, not where you go.
